Grading open-ended reading comprehension answers by hand is slow, and it's hard to stay perfectly consistent across dozens of students and questions. READScore reads each student's answer the way a careful grader would — checking whether the meaning matches the answer key, not just the wording — and does it in seconds instead of hours.

READScore is a reading comprehension assessment tool for Grade 6, aligned with the Phil-IRI framework. Teachers create classes and assign reading passages with open-ended questions; student answers are scored automatically for meaning, not exact wording.
Each answer is compared against the teacher's answer key for semantic similarity (using BERTScore) — a paraphrased but correct answer still scores well. Each answer is also checked against the reading passage, and an answer the passage doesn't support has its match reduced. That percentage is then weighted by the question's Bloom's Taxonomy level before being combined into your final score.
These are the three Phil-IRI reading levels your final score maps to: Independent (80% and above) means you can comprehend the passage on your own, Instructional (59–79%) means you'd benefit from guided support, and Frustration (below 59%) means the passage is currently too difficult without help.
Every question is automatically classified by Bloom's Taxonomy level. Higher-order questions — Analyze, Evaluate, Create — are weighted more heavily than simpler Remember/Understand questions, since they demonstrate deeper comprehension.
Ask your teacher for the class share code, then enter it on the join screen. No separate account or roster setup is needed.
Submitting a test again replaces your previous answers and score for that test, so check with your teacher before resubmitting — some classes may expect a single attempt.
